Will the debris from the
blast damage the boiler?
If set-up properly any damage will be done to the
slag build-up that is targeted to be removed. Manual labour with
scaffolding and hand tools would run the risk of causing far more
damage not to mention any use of shotguns or jackhammers.
How often does this happen?
Little to never! Hi-Tech prides itself on our outstanding
reputation of very rare incidents, a reputation we maintain across
Canada.
Is this procedure safe?
Safety is our number one priority! We work to maximize the safety
of our Team and our assets. All of our procedures are thoroughly
documented, governed and followed.
Do you have to go inside the boiler to perform
your job?
Never! By not entering the boiler we eliminate numerous
safety risks. This provides more assurance to our Team and customers
that our safety and the safety of the boiler is our most important
objective.
How does the explosive remove the slag build-up?
This is accomplished by the extreme percussion caused
by detonation. The resulting explosion either shakes or forces
the slag from its resting place. Slag comes in many different
consistencies and forms; therefore, in some instances multiple
detonations are required. We have yet to encounter a type of slag
that we could not remove with our procedures, specialized techniques
and detonation plans.
Have you ever had any accidents or injuries/fatalities
while blasting?
Never! Hi-Tech is very proud of our reputation of
having zero near misses, zero accidents, and zero injuries or
fatalities.
How does blasting compare against hydro
blasting or other methods of removal?
While hydro blasting can be very effective, it really
can’t be compared to the sheer power of a explosive blasting.
Strategically placed charges are far superior to any other form
of slag removal due to its performance we are able to minimize
downtime and in-turn maximizing profitability.
How long does it take to clean a boiler?]
The time it takes to clean a boiler can vary with
the density and makeup of the slag as well as the accessibility
to the slag pieces that are to be taken down. A job can be very
quick or very long. We develop our detonation plans to minimize
downtime and accomplish the job as quickly as possible.
How cost effective is it?
We are able to mobilize almost immediately which
maximizes downtime.
How available are you, and how quickly
can you mobilize?
We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Hi-Tech is capable of almost immediate deployment. Our travel
resources are both by air and by land. We make ourselves available
to our customers as fast as we can either through emergency service
or planned service.
